Veiled in Scarlet - Atonement (November 21, 2018)
#1
Hmm Walkure Records seems to have gotten busy all of a sudden. Melodeath band, Veiled in Scarlet, has a new album, atonement, coming out.

It also seems like Shin has finally joined the band as a permanent member (he was a support for the past 3 years) on vocals.

I'm moderately interested. Their second album had an unlistenable vocalist (it didn't take too long for him to get the boot lol), but pretty solid music. We'll see what they come up with.

Should be easy Top 10 of 2018 material. I thought their 2016 EP was really good.

Hmm sounds alright I guess.

And here it is.

This song is literally power metal with harsh vocals. There's not an ounce of death metal. I dunno. I think I kind of like it actually. I might pick the album up after all.

Okay I liked that more than I expected. You're definitely right in it just being ultra aggressive power metal.

I wouldn't even call it "ultra aggressive." Laugh You could swap the vocals for a clean singer and nobody would bat an eye. I recall the trailer having plenty of typical melodeath in it though, so I'm assuming it's just that one song.

That's probably exactly why I don't hate it Laugh I'd have preferred clean vocals, but the riffing is great.
If you can't get enough of me giving my opinions without having asked for it, you can read more of it on my Kevy Metal weblog.

There is nothing wrong with melodeath as long as it's good and not just generic early inflames/bodom ripoff #41515. Tongue

I actually listened to the trailer again yesterday and it was a lot better than I remembered it. It's pretty light on death metal overall, but I think the riffing and leads are pretty good. I think I'll get this one later after all.
