Samurai thrashers United will be releasing a new album in a few months. Thanks to Perdition for the tip.

I'll certainly give it a listen when it comes out. United was always just short of great for me - though their debut is quite cool - but they always have a few good ideas going on.

Huh, I was under the impression that they were thrash metal, but MA says their later stuff is "Metalcore/Groove Metal." Could just be bullshit though.

Groove/Thrash metal would be more accurate. There's one album they recorded with a different vocalist that was more in a metalcore direction due to his voice, but the thrash has been coming more and more to the surface in recent years. I'd say they are above average for Japanese thrash these days.

I guess I'll have to wait and see if the upcoming trailer impresses me or not.

Head Phones President guest spot? WTF?!?!? That seems random.

I think those two bands are friends. At any rate, I saw a clip on youtube a few years back of Anza sending United well-wishes for their last anniversary milestone.

They could be good friends or just have a professional relationship. Just because a band involves the same musician every now and then doesn't mean that the head honcho is always calling them and shit like that. At the same time, it's possible for both musicians to be EXTREMELY close, but for one reason or another, they never got around to collaborating, likely due to conflicting schedules and commitments to their full-time bands.

Something I had to learn along the way with Japanese musicians...
