Selling General Discussion

I currently have about 500 CDs sitting in various stacks around my house that I need to get rid of. I think I've purged everything I'm going to purge at this point, at least with stuff I've had for a while.
For those who are interested in that sort of thing, my collection on Discogs.com.

Do you ebay them or just take them down to a used store?

I used to trade them in to Sentinel Steel for trade-in credit, plus selling stuff on forums and ebay. Sentinel Steel is the fastest option, but trade in credit was kinda useless when they have no CDs I want.

I will admit I like selling stuff and packaging things up and mailing them is a hobby for me.

I can't think of too much more I want gone now. But I always say that. lol

Like Bhg70, I got stacks of albums on CD, vinyl, and cassette that I want to get rid of. Not that I actually HATE the music, but more so that I don't listen to other formats anymore. I just get more options with CDs, and it's really the only physical format around where these options are still possible. I would NEVER pay for a download.

Stuff that's ok (even good) that I've lost interest of or it got ruined somehow, I tend to sell. I mean I could listen to the stuff, there's just no point. I find duress tends to compel me to purge a bit. Mind you, I don't have many CDs I actually hate.

For buying legal digital music - if a CD copy does not exist or is literally impossible to get, I may consider it.

For me, digital is not ownership of an album. You're only being allowed to own the license, rather than the album itself. That's why I'm not paying for that reissue of Breeze Least's self-titled debut album by Shadow Kingdom Records, as no physical version exists. I'd much rather pirate. Not like the band is making a profit off the digital reissue.

If its the only option to have something, I may go with it.

I don't mind supporting labels, but yeah, if a band is getting screwed then I won't bother.

I do like bands who put venue/OOP crap up on itunes or whatever.

It's a very complicated situation for me. I want to support the bands, but I'd rather get something tangible out of it, no matter what.

I've tried eBay, but I've never been very successful on there. And, honestly, packaging and shipping is a hassle for me. I'm a single dad with three young kids and a trip to the Post Office (or anywhere really) requires loading them up and carting them around with me.

I've tried finding new homes for them, but the majority of people I know have no interest in collecting. They're either "whatever's on the radio" people or "I've gone digital" people.

So, I'll probably end up taking them to Half-Priced Books on a weekend or something just to get a few bucks.

Well wait a second. You have to have at least some good stuff right? I guess making you type up a list of 500 would be unfair lol.
Occasionally, I write Western and Japanese music reviews.

You could try Sentinel Steel. I used to send boxes of 50 CDs in and got a bunch of in store credit (assuming they have anything you want). Some power metal CDs you get around $5 for.

Non-metal or really common/non-valuable music I'd trade in at a store.

Ebay is almost as much of a hobby for me than anything.
