[Power Metal] Rakshasa

Power metal with slight ethnic influences. Their guitarist is pretty talented. Their first vocalist was Manami from Dragon Eyes/Dragon Guardian. I believe she left due to musical differences. Yuri (ex-Albion) was her replacement, and probably the most suitable one. The rest of the band is rounded out by Ethereal Sin members.

Their debut I found to be pretty solid. Well-performed, but nothing mind-blowing. I'm actually a bit more enthusiastic about their demo (and those songs are among my favorites on the new CD). I think they need more emphasis on atmosphere (in other words, rip off Onmyo-Za more) and I found their heavier moments were their better ones. I do have pretty high expectations for their 2nd album though.

This song is actually quite misleading and doesn't represent the CD its on very well. Its more poppy/melodic than usual, but I still liked it. So don't write the band off if you didn't like this song.

Trailer.

Clip with Manami on vocals.

Which tracks off the album were on the demo then?

I see they've copied the Onmyo-Za thing of not picking the simple kanji for their song titles, at least!

Not bad. I personally would have liked a more powerhouse vocalist for this, but because she can obviously carry a tune, it's not too distracting.

It did crack me up that they specifically mentioned the director of a lyric video in the beginning. Credit where credit is due, I guess...

Yuri wails pretty good though. Maybe not Fuki level, but I wouldn't consider her a weak vocalist.

She's a little too by-the-books for me. Then again, it took me some time to adjust to Kuroneko as well, so maybe it will come. I do think Kuroneko is doing something more unique than this girl though.

Well, Kuroneko is one of the best female vocalists over there (and a major influence on Yuri). I don't think there's too many vocalists like YUri over there (and certainly not over here), so I don't think she's by the books at all. Going from female-fronted metal bands over there, there aren't that many who sound like her or are as good either.

I do prefer her performance in Tengusakura and Albion a bit more though (not on a technical level though). But that's probably more due to songwriting - she may not have written her vocal lines on this (songs may've all been composed before she joined the band).

Does anybody know/remember which bonus cd-r came with the pre-order HMV release?

I´ve won the album on Yahoo (for 1300 Yen Tongue ) and there´s a bonus cd-r included.
I know it´s from HMV but no further information.
