[Poll] Your Three Favorite 44 Magnum Albums?

I'm certain it's mostly down to the first two albums, but I have heard that they recuperated sometime after their AOR missteps -- they even released their latest album earlier this year, which is said to be pretty hard-sounding stuff like the classics.

So far, I'll cast my votes for Danger and Street Rock'n Roller, since those have some incredibly catchy, in-your-face songwriting with the usual melodic cuts to appease even the "non-metal" crowd. Some of the best songs off those two albums for me are "I'm on Fire", "The Wild Beast", "No Standing Still", "At Last I'm a Free Man", "Street Rock'n Roller", "Nightmare", "Too Late to Hide", and "I Just Can't Take Anymore". They definitely had what it took to become comparable to fellow brethren Earthshaker and even Loudness, but screwed it all up as soon as they dropped Actor, to which I found utterly disappointing (although the music video for "Love Desire" is VERY entertaining Wink).

I only voted on the first two, even as a hard rock fan I couldn't get into their soft stuff really. Tongue I should try Prisoner sometime for sure though, it seems like something I might enjoy given what I've seen other fans of the band saying.

I noticed there's a full upload of Ignition, which I posted above. It was released in 2002, so perhaps it could be assumed that they thought it over in the 1990s and decided to go back to the harder sound there and then. Smile

I don't think Actor was that bad, it still had some decent metal tracks (like Last Train, Rock You Out, Backstreet Delinquent).

I just think it's the "wrong" kind of hard rock. Soft music can be done really well, but 44 Magnum was more or less stylistically similar to Van Halen, although the riffs had more of a Judas Priest bite, so when the riffs went away, bad attempts at commercialism took over. I'd rather listen to Hysteria on repeat, since at least Def Leppard got the pop rock thing right on that album.

I'd probably even take Rhinoceros over the weaker 44 Magnum albums. Tongue

Yeah, I don't outright hate Actor, but it's a really clear transition point in their stylistic changing from metal to rock and it kinda felt like they didn't know what they wanted to be themselves at that point.

I didn't think 44 Magnum was actually particularly metallic even on their first coupe of albums though. I pretty much always saw them as a hard rock band.
