Magistina Saga - Invite in the Story (October 16, 2019)

New mini-album from Starwave's finest symphonic gothsters (a low benchmark perhaps, but hey).

Trailer:

Video for "Another World":

Say what you like about Starwave, but it's shockingly co-ordinated of them to get the album trailer, lead PV, and get the band to spam a load of new publicity pics all on the same day - it's almost like (gasp) they've thought about it.

Pity they couldn't make their English title actually make sense though. Well I suppose I have to give them half a point for no spelling mistakes though.

And the MV's pretty nice too, though I wish they hadn't re-used that shot of the lake with CGI butterflies so much. And I suspect Starwave's fan base probably thinks it could do with more hot guys in lipstick pouting at the camera Wink
Feel free to request a translation here. And check out my previous work in this section.
Please bear it mind I'm always busy though and it may take a while!

You'd think they'd load up on close-up shots of Urugi to make up for that, but nope, it's a normal video--and not even in that warehouse(?) that Starwave loves to use for MVs...

Sounds pretty good. These guys and Alevas seem like Starwave's best talents.

I suspect if one finds distress in ropey English CD titles, Japanese music in general will prove problematic...

Watched the MV now. It appears that Mirei didn’t get the memo that no-one ever smiles in goth videos (least of all the bassist - dear god). Oh well...

In terms of the trailer - seems like all their songs still sound a bit the same. But I’ve come to terms with that. When they tried something else, they went all nu-metal, and that didn’t end well.

Am expecting this to be a solid 7 - the mini-album format serves them well as the saminess of their sound shouldn’t outstay its welcome so much as on a longer recording.

As much as I criticise them, am looking forward to this.

Yeah, I'm just glad that the sound they tried on that single last year is gone (unless the trailer is very misleading about the songs, but I doubt it). I guess it was Saw and Yamal providing the nu-metal sound, and now that they've left for a band where that actually makes sense, Magistina Saga can go back to making inoffensive but enjoyable goth music.
