Kyoji Yamamoto is definitely one of the earliest Japanese rock guitarists in existence, and probably the first one to become famous for his tapping technique, right around the time of Van Halen's self-titled debut album. When he formed his band as Bow Wow in 1975, they were already on their way to the top, making their official television debut in 1976 and releasing their first album that same year. Yamamoto's impressive riffs and unique voice made the band what they are today. The fact they opened for Aerosmith and Kiss in their 1978 Japanese tours says it all, really.
He's also been involved in other projects, such as Heavy Metal Army, Munetaka Higuchi's solo band, and even his own solo band.
Let's not also forget that Loudness, Metallica, and even Iron Maiden have paid their respects to the man.
