Jupiter - 'Theory of Evolution' (August 8, 2018)
#1
Might as well, since the news is already out there.

Jupiter will release their first single with new singer Atsushi Kuze on August 8th. It will contain three new songs and instrumental versions of those three songs. If I read things correctly, it will only be available as a cd/dvd combo, the dvd of which includes the video for its title track.

Info is as follows:

Track list cd:

1. Theory of Evolution
2. Bring me out
3. Angel's Wings
4. Theory of Evolution -instrumental ver.-
5. Bring me out -instrumental ver.-
6. Angel's Wings -instrumental ver.-

This is on the dvd:

Hey you can't forget to post a picture of their new look after a big lineup change. Tongue

Well I guess our predictions about Kuze joining Jupiter came true after all. I wonder if this means that Hizaki will totally drop all the melodeath/extreme leanings or maybe he'll just have the guy from Gyze do guest vocals? As for the actual song, I thought Kuze's vocals fit quite smoothly in there and the vocalist switch doesn't really faze me even though Zin is probably the more talented of the two. The guitar solo section was pretty nifty as always, so this is a pretty much a no-brainer buy for me.

Edit: Some responses to some quotes from the general thread.

If I remember right, Zin only has songwriting credits for like a couple of songs. So if there are any legal issues, you might not see them play "Red Carnation" live again just to be on the safe side. I don't think lyrics alone matter.

Well this new song was actually pretty thrashy all things considered. The amount of times Hizaki and Teru interrupt the riff to do the obligatory dual lead was lower than usual. They might aim for some kind of middle ground between flowerly power metal and melodeath?

Already basically gave my thoughts in the other thread. In short, I think Kuze sounds awesome, as does the new song, and I'm really looking forward to hearing him on the other material in a couple weeks. Whether there will still be melodeath influence from this point forward is up in the air, but regardless, I'm excited.

¥2000 for a 3 song single + DVD is actually a pretty cheap price by Japan's standards.

The comments for the YouTube video are sometimes hilarious. Not a lot of people seem to know who Kuze is, despite him being a veteran. My favorite has to be this one though:

Laugh Jupiter's MVs are always super stoic and serious. I guess Versailles's MVs were pretty serious too, but at least they always did the goofy 360 spin thing to lighten things up.

Concerto Moon is pretty much a band for old school metallers (I promise I don't mean that in a bad way), so it's not surprising that the VK crowd doesn't recognize him. And while we're on the topic, I can't think of anyone else that prominent that switched scenes like that out of the blue. If I remember right, some guys in Nocturnal Bloodlust started off in some normal deathcore band (that no one cared about) before jumping on the VK train. On the other hand, Kuze was already a pretty well-established relatively high profile musician in the scene, so it's not quite the same thing. Of course, visual kei and metal aren't nearly as separate as they used to be (especially not Jupiter), but Concerto Moon to Jupiter is a pretty big jump.

Edit: Oh duh, I forgot about JaY from Light Bringer. He did a big scene jump as well. Make that two. Actually, GYZE seems like they're borderline VK these days as well.

Actually, I asked Gyze about Ryoji's contributions to Jupiter and how visual they consider themselves, I hope I can give you some more information on that soon.

But you're right. The jump from visual to non-visual seems to be more common than the other way around. Daisuke sort of did that too though.

Yeah but Daisuke's old gig probably sucked compared to Jupiter. I'd do the same thing in his shoes. Tongue

Well, don't I already like Seikima II, early X Japan, Rommel, Rosenfeld, Necrophilia, Dead End, early Kuroyume, Fast Draw, and the like? Wink

Still, that's quite surreal of Atsushi Kuze actually joining Jupiter. Then again, Aki was Concerto Moon's keyboardist in recent years, and he's also visual kei. Laugh

By the way, just saw this post from former Concerto Moon drummer Masayuki Osada, who'd posted a music video of "Savior Never Cry", the first time that Kuze would officially be shown playing with the band. Any idea what he's actually saying here? Is he trashing the guy or something? There seems to be a bit of mocking in the comments from a few veteran musicians.

I guess Microsoft hasn't taught its translation tool the word "bangya" yet. Wink

"Atsushi Kuze joins Jupiter, VK fangirls nationwide show interest, and manage to reach Concerto Moon's Savior Never Cry MV, saying 'Kuze is cool, but the drummer is super cool~!', are we seriously approaching a world where this somehow happens??" (not even remotely certain about the last part)
