[Heavy Metal/Hard Rock] Ningen Isu (人間椅子)
#1
Ningen Isu (人間椅子) is a Japanese band that uniquely combines elements of doom metal, progressive rock, hard rock, and heavy metal in their core sound. Albeit a highly diverse band, I consider them predominantly doom metal.

The band has been around since 1987, and they've since released nearly twenty full-length albums so far. Several compilation albums, singles, and an EP exist in their discography. It's rather difficult to pick a good album to start off with, although the album that was released just today may be a good start.

For fans of Black Sabbath, Rush, Budgie, Deep Purple, Flower Travellin' Band, and Bellzlleb.

I still can't belive Kenichi had a dayjob for over a couple of decades while releasing so many high quality albums. I don't even normally like doom metal much, but these guys are great.

I really need to play their stuff more. Aside from their last few, most of their older stuff I've only played 3 times. Kinda sad considering I own like 20 CDs of theirs.

I'd say their older stuff is a lot more 70s in spirit/feeling. They kinda morphed into something different in their later years.

I think in order to manage things properly, I may just pick one album and focus strictly on it. Playing a 20 CD discography in serial manner won't help anything.

I can't even tell you which one has my favorite song of theirs on it. One of the early 00s ones. Not being in English probably makes this all the more problematic.

Ningen-isu was one of those bands that instantly grabbed my attention, so I've played the crap out of most of their albums already. I remember that I got their first album just to try out the band blindly, and it completely shattered my expectations. Admittedly, there's a handful of their albums (mostly some of the 00 stuff) that I don't listen to that much.

If I have one nitpick, a lot of their albums are too long. Unsurprisingly, I gravitate towards the shorter ones.

They're great. I'm not too familiar with their older stuff but their releases over the past 5-6 years have really won me over. And their videos are highly entertaining to boot.

This is my favorite song by them:

With that in mind, their 2003 release might be my favorite. Should dust that one off later.

Hah, the 2003 release would be one of the Ningen-Isu albums I don't listen to enough.

It's pretty god damn hard to pick a favorite song, but I would say this one is probably relatively underrated.
