Gyze - Asian Chaos (July 10, 2019)

Huh? Gyze is releasing a new album. I guess they aren't on hiatus anymore? I don't see any official announcements anywhere but it's up on HMV. Here's the important part in bold:

Quote:日本に先駆けてヨーロッパで世界デビューを飾り、ツアーを経て帰国後に国内デビューを飾った破格のエクストリーム・メタル・バンド、GYZE!彼等の待望の4thアルバムが古巣ビクターより世界に先駆けて先行配信&国内リリース!

That surprises me as well. Best of luck to them though! Ryoji is a million times better at e-mail interviews than Hizaki and Kamijo combined, so for that, they already have my respect Wink

I just hope they're not rushing Shuji into this too quickly.

Edit: Does it even say it's a studio album and not a compilation or something similar?

Yeah they went on hiatus in December 2018 which is really not much of a hiatus.

It's definitely a new album according to the description.

I hope it's good. They're a bit inconsistent, but their songs I like I tend to really like.

Nice, really looking forward to this.
Northern Hell Song is pretty underrated imo. My personal favourite album by the band.

Yeah Northern Hell Song is definitely their best simply because it has by far the most listenable production of all of their stuff. Removing the core influence from the earlier days helps a lot too. Dunno, I liked Northern Hell Song at first, but it wore on me after a while. I still think the band has never really hit their full potential. Ryoji is really good at writing catchy melodic leads at times, but not all the time. Perhaps a smaller, more focused album will finally click with me.

Album cover is out now.

There's lots of details on the website (in English) so I'll just quote a chunk of it.

Quote:The new GYZE album『ASIAN CHAOS』to be released on July 10th!
A digital single from the album will be released world-wide already on June 7th!

The metal band from Hokkaido GYZE is about to release the 4th full-format album from BLACK SHEEP RECORDS records, by that officially coming back to the old hounts - Victor Entertainment.

Moreover, before the album release scheduled for July 10, GYZE will release a single featuring the title track Asian Chaos (Far Eastern Mix ver.). Its world-wide digital release is planned for June 7th.

Although GYZE is active overseas and targeting western market, with the new album Asian Chaos the main composer of the band Ryoji decided to highlight his Japanese identity. An amazing and unpredictable collaboration was born : being proud of his origins, he invited musicians of Gagaku - world oldest orchestra - to perform on a few tracks, introducing such traditional Japanese wind instruments as Sho (笙), Hichiriki (篳篥) and Ryuteki (龍笛). The glory of lyrical melodies of Gagaku, combined with unique Japanese scale and integrated with heavy metal creates the unrivaled transcendent sound album showing how cool pure Japanese traditional music actually is. The new album is meant to leave the strong impression highliting originality of GYZE.

So we believe this album is the best match for the the benning of Reiwa era.

"Asian Chaos" includes a song in collaboration with a DragonForce vocalist Marc Hudson. GYZE has played with DragonForce on the festivals and on their Asian tour where the bands became friends so when Ryoji asked if Marc was interested to do guest vocals for the song he supported the idea. Look forward to find out what spice did Marc add to GYZE song.

Also, a bonus track for Japan edition is a cover of the iconic Forever Love by X JAPAN.
Look forward to hear GYZE interpretation of this legendary song.

More news! With the new album we're happy to welcom a new member on guitar and programming - SHINKAI, who used to be Ryoji's mentor. Also, instead of Shuji, who unfortunately can't continue band activity now, we introduce you to Hannya - a support drummer. However, GYZE are hoping that one day Shuji would come back.

That explains how they could come back from hiatus so soon. I hope Shuji will be alright.
