General Metal Concert Thread
Based on the expressions on their faces when the audience started chanting their name at the end of their set, and the interactions backstage, I'd say they definitely enjoyed themselves. I'd call it a total win for everyone involved. I just hope that their management can use this as a stepping stone to get them a tour over here.

I will be sponsoring Conception, and I'm happy about Witherfall, Shattered Skies, and Arion. The rest aren't really my thing. But, as has happened in the past, their live performances might make a believer out of me.

Anyway, maybe I'll see some of you there. Smile

The only band that I'm really familiar with in that lineup is The Gathering. I've heard of some of those other bands but haven't listened to much of them. I looked into Beast of Blood and was a little annoyed that they had a tour called "From Hell with Love"

Conception is probably a long held ProgPower wish, unless they already played the festival recently. They had some good stuff in their prime. The Night Flight Orchestra is sort of a weird name there, as it's neither prog nor power, it's retro-AOR to the max.

Witherfall is easily my favorite band out of that list. The guys in The Gathering are nice people though Smile

Not since they reformed, no. I believe they did a one-off reunion show in the early days of the fest, but that's been at least 10 years ago.

They are one of the "curve balls" Glenn (the organizer) likes to throw every so often. This year, it was Poets of the Fall. I can't even describe them in any meaningful way, except to say they remind me a little bit of New Wave, a little bit of pop/rock (power pop?), and a little bit of hard rock. They certainly weren't metal of any variety. That said, they went over amazingly well, and I really enjoyed their set.

A lot of people were happy about The Gathering, but I suspect most of them were expecting it to be with Anneke -- but as far as I'm aware, that's not really the case. I hope the crowd isn't too disappointed when it turns out not to be Anneke (she's a festival favorite).

They shouldn't be. Silje is great. Honestly, I think Anneke is probably Holland's best female singer, but Silje does a great job on the older material. A couple of years ago, I went to see them because René is an acquaintance of mine and I was blown away by how well Silje performed 'Shot to Pieces' - one of my favorite songs of theirs - only to find out that she had a nasty cold that day. Color me impressed.

One thing they could be disappointed about is that I could see them doing a set with new material exclusively, but on the other hand, they're probably well aware of their audience's wishes by now.

Worryingly, I've heard of every band on this show.... except for 'Kyanos':

Done MA entries four four of five of them too ... Dodgy
Feel free to request a translation here. And check out my previous work in this section.
Please bear it mind I'm always busy though and it may take a while!

I may want to investigate Düel... That fragment sounded a bit Gargoyle-ish, right down to the point where I have to get used to the vocals Laugh
That Wrecking Crew riff sounded good too.

By the way, is it me or are those Kyanos vocals way, waaaay off?

Düel is more old Tank style.

The Wrecking Crew ep is pretty good.
