Ares - Mother Earth to Father Sky (November 7, 2018)

Eccentric Death Metal types with dual cookie monster vocals, Ares have somehow managed to fit in time between the international tours for a third album out in November on Repentless. Could be interesting.

Yikes, I checked out the trailer for the second album and that snare drum is like St. Anger levels of bad. WTF?!?!? Not at all the same tone, but just as obnoxious. I'm down for melodeath if it's interesting enough though, so I guess I'll check out this trailer when it comes out.

Care to share? You made me curious, but I can't find it anywhere as of yet Big Grin

Oh you asked for it. This is a track off the second album. I've honestly heard bedroom black metal with better production than this.

On the bright side, I think the vocalist is pretty good and above average for this genre so there's at least some hope?

Oh the second album! Sorry, I misread your post Big Grin

But yeah... It's not quite as obnoxious as the 'St. Anger' snare, but it's pretty horrible. I am pleasantly surprised to actually hear the bass though. The composition isn't bad either.

I honestly couldn't bear to sit through the whole thing. Hearing the blastbeats made me feel suicidal, but the bits of the composition I heard seemed decent enough. They'd have to learn how to have a decent production first though.

Without exaggeration this still sounds roughly 10 times better/cleaner than that Yokosuka Saver Tiger compilation.

I don't think this Ares song is too bad in itself, but yeah, the production totally ruins it.
