[Live Report] Jupiter - 5th Anniversary Premium Live - Shibuya, Tokyo (July 16, 2018)
#1
So, here's my little review of Jupiter's first ever show with new singer Kuze. How was it you ask? In a word: Holy shit. That's two words, I know, but man, that show ripped my head off. I lucked out something fierce, as the serei bango on my ticket (the number on your ticket that indicates where you stand in line, and hence, when you get to enter the venue) was 4. So I was front row, practically right in front of Kuze and Hizaki.

As for the former, let me just say that I really liked Zin, and was pretty gutted when he announced he was leaving just a month after I had received confirmation to come over here on a work visa. He really helped separate the band from Versailles and I wasn't sure I could see the band going on without him (not sure what the hell he's doing with his solo project ATM). That being said, if I'm being totally honest, Kuze sings these songs better in the live setting than Zin ever did IMO. The guy was on fire, nailing notes like the final high one in Arcadia that Zin would often struggle on with ease. He was so damn powerful, and aside from a couple moments where he seemed to forget the lyrics, he did not falter once.

Oh, and it turns out he CAN growl. And quite well from what I was hearing (and I had musician's earplugs in). Anyway, here was the setlist:

1. Luminous (Yes, as an opener, no joke)
2. Theory of Evolution
3. Arcadia
4. We Against
5. Guilty as Sin
6. The Spirit Within Me
7. Bring Me Out
8. Angel's Wings (They didn't say the name, but I definitely didn't know the song)
9. BLAST
10. Zetsubou Labyrinth
11. Symmetry Breaking
12. Blessing of the Future

Encore:
13. The Birth of Venus
14. Theory of Evolution (Yes, a second time)

So in short, pretty damn good setlist. I do wish they would have played a different song to close the show than just doing the new single a second time, maybe Scarlet? As for the two new ones, both sounded great. Bring Me Out was a very fast one, sort of a cross between Allegory Cave and maybe Iolite musically, though primarily clean vocals. Angel's wings was also pretty thrashy-sounding sounding like Theory of Evolution, didn't stick in my mind quite as immediately, but it was definitely very good as well.

Also, obviously since Zin is out of the band, they removed his backing vocal harmonies from the back-track, but from what I could hear, it sounds like they had Kuze record some of his own for the old songs. Weird.

So yeah, overall it fucking killed, I got one of Hizaki's picks, and got my picture taken with Teru (they did it on a camera that auto-prints a physical picture, so I can't just upload it here). Right now I'm waiting to see if Hizaki's going to come out so I can get one with him, just thinking that Jupiter v.3.0 is probably the best incarnation to date. If I didn't have plans on Saturday, I'd seriously consider going to the other show on that day.

Man, work is going to suck tomorrow.
