80s All-Female and Female-Fronted Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Bands
#1
[Pedition's edit] Japan's current wave of girl-bands didn't come out of nowhere. The 80s had quite a few of them too. This thread is a catch-all for anything not named Show-Ya (who really need their own thread).

There's no doubt that Japan seems to have an abundant amount of female fans and musicians who love metal and rock genres.

Velle Witch and Jet Maybe easily come to mind. The former has a doomy vibe, whereas the latter is more like a Japanese Rock Goddess.

Show-Ya definitely being the precursor to all this (well, at least the rock/metal ones). They probably need their own thread. Its strange that even in the 80s a lot of those bands crashed and burned too.

Aphasia being in no-mans land in the early 00s, then bang, Destrose and Aldious came along and pretty much revived things. I find it strange how a lot of the girl-metal bands tour with and are friends with a lot of all-girl pop/rock bands.

damn i fell in love with the vocals of Velle Witch! too bad they never released any records, only tapes (that seem very hard if not impossibe to find anyway..), i hate tapes. you kinda ruined my day here man.. Wink

i know a fiew all female punk bands, but dont think they're fit for this thread.

i got a flyer of some all female metal band from a friend once, forgot what they where called, it might still be on my desk somewhere. even if its been a fiew years..

Vixen, Rose, Flying Vision, Nasty Rose, Altemis, Magenda and Battle Axe were also part of that first handful of 80s female only Japanese metal bands.

There were also several all female rock/hard rock ones too in the 80s, most notably Princess Princess (they've got some great stuff) and Pink Sapphire who I literally just realized also got back together in 2014.

Valkylie was one of these. Although the only think they released was the Lamia Shock demo, it's one of my favorites.

Been a fan of Battle Axe for a while, one of those demo-only bands that I really wish had made an album.

Here's Altemis, another one that only ever made a demo unfortunately. They remind me of an all-female version of Hellen.

That's one I was unfamiliar with. Pretty damn impressive for a demo. Shame they didn't go on to record an album. They would have fit in perfectly with the Mandrake Root lineup.
