Bridear - Perdition - 07-10-2016

All-female heavy/power band (with some metalcore elements) from Fukuoka. Pretty talented band, esp. their guitarists. I think Misa won some soloing competition over there. They have a few singles, one mini-album, and a full-length (which was released earlier this year under their belts). They did a tour of Europe earlier this year (pretty rare when a Japanese band does that).

A new live crossfade turned up on my twitter feed.

i only bought the iTunes version of their full length - who does the cookie monster vocals, and more importantly, please could they stop?

RE: Bridear - bhg70 - 09-26-2016

Misa, one of the guitarists, does the growls. I like 'em. Smile

I think she did a pretty decent job on them too.

There's no harsh vocals on their first MCD though.

RE: Bridear - TimJ - 09-26-2016

fair enough, not saying she does a bad job if you like that sort of thing, I just think they sound way out of context. Each to their own, I guess.

RE: Bridear - Light - 09-26-2016

I really think the growls added to the band. My personal opinion on the first album was kinda boring in the vocal department without the growls.

Vox on both albums are fine.

I do notice more metalcore creeping in on Baryte, which isn't a shock considering what Misa listens to. Despite my dislike for metalcore, it actually works out ok here. They have an uncompromising, organic sound that I find quite appealing. I hope they never pander to Euro power metal fans and streamline their sound.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of growls. But ever since I got into Epica a couple of years ago, I find myself more appreciative of them. I prefer them when used as an accent or counterpoint, as in Bridear, but I happen to really like Galmet and Erebos, too. Smile

I took my sweet time getting around this and now kinda kick myself, if only for "Hakoniwa." Damn that song is killer.
